As an environmentalist, I’ve spent over 40 years working in forestry, conservation and sustainability projects. My work cut across diverse ecosystems, such as deserts and rainforests, and spanned multiple countries in East Africa and Southeast Asia.

Harsh terrains are training grounds for perseverance and problem-solving. Dealing with different sociocultural issues and conditions leads to a lifetime of learning.

Growing up in Texas also proved to be pivotal and laid the groundwork for my long journey outside the United States.

Scobiphonic is my second persona. I can’t separate the two, so you might as well know both.

During the 2021-22 lockdown years, I discovered music theory – for acoustic guitar – and set my creative soul free as a songwriter. Now I write protest music essays and release original songs and videos on my Substack Newsletter and YouTube.

My son is twentysomething and provides a major incentive to connect with newer generations. My goal is to convey some ground rules and strategies that worked for me. They may also trigger insights and action applicable to your own self-discovery.

Malaysia is home. America is home-home. It’s a big, beautiful and sometimes ugly world. Get creative, get grounded and get going.
